B2 First Vocabulary:
I would say
“I would say” can be used instead of saying “I think” when giving your opinion on something. This is particularly useful in the speaking paper where candidates often repeat the verb “think” too many times. You can also include adverbs like “probably”, “definitely” or “certainly” to add extra meaning and fluency to the answers.
Below are examples of how 'I would say' could be used in the B2 First (FCE) exam.
Speaking Part 1:
Examiner: “What is you favourite thing to do during the weekend?”Candidate: “Well, I enjoy doing lots of things during the weekend, but I would probably say my favourite thing is going to the cinema…”
Speaking Part 4:
Examiner: “In your opinion, what are the advantages and disadvantages of taking a year off to travel?”Candidate: “I would definitely say that the main advantage is the opportunity to experience different countries and cultures…”
