Litter

“Litter” is a noun that refers to pieces of paper or other small bits of waste that are left in public places. It is commonly refered to when talking about topics such as the environment.

Below are examples of how 'Litter' could be used in the B2 First (FCE) exam.
Speaking Part 4:

Examiner: “How to you think young children can be encouraged to take care of the environment?”

Candidate: “I think educating them about the effects of waste and litter on the environment would be a good start, maybe encourage them to pick up litter around the school or their local park…”

Reading and Use of English Part 2:

It’s very important that people pick (4)…… litter to help look after the local area so it is a nicer place to live for everybody.
