B2 First Vocabulary:

Take part

“Take part” is a B1 level phrase that candidates could be tested on in the reading and use of English or listening paper. It is also a phrase that candidates should be comfortable using in the speaking or writing paper where appropriate. It means to be involved in an activity with other people, typically a game or sport.

It is used with the proposition “in” when referring to the activity that the person is involved in. For example: “He took part in the football match”

Below are examples of how 'Take part' could be used in the B2 First (FCE) exam.
Reading and Use of English Part 2:

Over one hundred people took part (2)…… in the clinical trial for the drug.

Speaking Part 1:

Examiner: “Did you play a lot of sports when you were younger?”

Candidate: “Yes, I used to take part in many different sports such as football, tennis and rugby…”
