More About Writing Part 1

Part 1 of the writing paper is worth 50% of the total score and requires candidates to express their opinion on a topic with an essay ranging between 140 – 190 words in length. You will be given two prompts which you must write about as well as your own idea.

The main focus of this part of the exam is understanding and locating specific details from the text. The questions may paraphrase the information in the text so it is important to fully understand the meaning of what is written in the text in order to get the correct answer.

You will be assessed on the range of structures you use to contrast, compare, explain and give opinions with reasons and examples. In addition you will also be assessed on your spelling, grammar, punctuation and range of vocabulary you use in the essay.
